Thank you

Almost thirty years ago, my friends and I said goodbye to each other. The international school I attended consisted of many students whose families temporarily worked in Sweden. We were together for a few years and then disappeared from each other, to different parts of the world. We thought we would never hear from one another again. However, we were young and so we said our good byes and our comfort was believing that the world was yet at our feet.

But as the years have gone by, my thoughts have often returned to my childhood and the period just before you are considered an adult. By impulse, over a year ago, I searched for names on the Internet and on Facebook trying to find some of these lost friends. I found some, and to my delight this circle of old friends has grown. Some of us have even had a get-together here in Stockholm. Thank you Facebook.

In my home there is now a beautifully carved wooden box. I received it from my Japanese friend Atsuyuki when we had the reunion. With great consideration, he had brought a gift to everyone from India, where he temporarily lived and worked.

The wooden box was filled with wonderful tea leaves which are now consumed, but the little box has a place on one of my bookshelves. A fond memory. Thank you Atsuyuki.

Some time ago a package came to me from Australia. I had fallen in love with my friend Mariana's photographs and design, which I could take part of on the web. So I ordered a couple of the beautiful lanterns with prints of Mariana's photos. So beautiful, so beautiful. Now I want to have them all.

Soon autumn will embed us in fallen leaves and humidity. But when the tree branches crackle and groan in the wind and the sun has hidden from us, I will light the lantern and think of my friends around the world. Thank you Mariana for your beautiful art.
